Slideshow on American Impressionist Art While American artists were smitten
with French Impressionists such as Monet, they developed their own interpretation
that suited the American psyche and patrons.
On
Thursday, May 22 at 1:00 pm a talk and slideshow on American Impressionist
Art will be presented at the Senior Center. The program will run about one hour
and afterwards there will be refreshments, coffee, and informal discussions. An
emphasis will be placed on works created in the final quarter of the nineteenth
century. Regionalists and art colonies will be secondary themes. Painting will
be the primary media discussed, but there will also be mention of sculpture and
prints with an Impressionist aspect. The speaker will be antiques writer Bob Jackman.
OPTIONAL: If you have an American Impressionist painting that you would
like to bring - Bob would be happy to comment on it. Admission is free. While
the talk will be organized around a sequence of 80 slides, the atmosphere will
be informal with questions and answers throughout the presentation.
Expect
to learn a bit, share some laughs, and have a good time.
