DISCUSSION OF DISCRIMINATION IN AMERICA TODAY
On Tuesday, January 3, 2012 Town Administrator Rocco Longo and several other community leaders will participate in a discussion of Discrimination and Prejudice in America Today.
The discussion is scheduled for 10 to 11:30am in the large function room of the COA with a reception coffee in the Board Room from 9:30 to 10am. These panelists were invited to the Senior Center by the Great Discussions group, and this meeting will be open to all seniors.
The discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss their personal thoughts on discrimination, its effects on individuals and society, measures for reducing prejudice and its expression, and the limitations that discrimination impose on this shrinking globe.
After introductory perspectives offered by invited panelist, the remainder of the meeting will be open discussion with Bob Jackman facilitating. While ageism is a common type of discrimination endured by seniors, the discussion will be open to all types of discrimination such as those based on race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, psychological or mental disability, etc. This is an opportunity to share perspectives on life and contribute to a bootstrap effort to improve our community |
